Upcoming Events

  • Cougar Closet is open today from 11:30 to 1pm.  If you need clothes for homecoming, or for any other reason, come get some.  They're nice and they're free.  Cougar Closet is the portable just outside near e-lecture with the grafitti sign in front.

  • We will have a balloon taking off from the Cibola football field on Friday morning.  Come to school about 15 minutes early and join in on the fun.

Upcoming Events

  • This past weekend was the first NMAA sanctioned Drill Meet in APS and the JROTC competed against 20 other teams. When the dust settled, Cibola walked out with numerous individual and team awards. 

    Our Armed Drill Team won 1st Place

    Our Male Color Guard took 2d Place

    Our Unarmed Drill Team Took 3rd Place
    Aiden Scruggs and Jasmine Meza each won Best Commander in their respective events, Armed and Unarmed Regulation Drill. 
    Amiyah Christopher won first place in the female Flexed Arm Hang event
    In marksmanship, Cameron Kirya, competing against 134 other shooters, finished third overall and second place in the Standing event. 
    Adrian Goins won second place in the Individual Drill Down event
    Sarah Montes won third place in the Individual Drill Down event

Cibola Sports Update

  • Boys soccer won on Saturday 1-0
  • Girls soccer beat Clovis on Friday 4-0

Hispanic Heritage Month announcement

Rudolfo Anaya was named by the New York Times the “Father of Chicano Literature”.  He was a celebrated author and recipient of the National Humanities Medal by President Obama.  In his book “Bless Me, Última,” he wrote, “...good is always stronger than evil.  The smallest bit of good can stand against all the powers of evil in the world and it will emerge triumphant.”

Rudolfo Anaya fue nombrado por New York Times, “El padre de la literatura chicana”.  Era un célebre autor y ganador de La medalla de las humanidades nacionales por el presidente Obama.  En su libro, “Bendíceme Última”, él escribió, “...lo bueno siempre es más fuerte que la maldad.  Aún un poco de lo bueno puede hacer frente a todos los poderes de la maldad en el mundo y saldrá triunfante.”

  • Attention all Swimmers! Winter sports are right around the corner so make sure you get a physical as soon as possible to be eligible for participation. Swimming and Diving tryouts are on Tuesday November 1st, and a parent meeting is scheduled for October 11th in the cafeteria at 6:30pm.

  • Cross country hosts their home meet today at Ventana Ranch park at 3:30, they will have their senior recognition at 3:00.

  • Cibola's Speech and Debate competed in the Capitol Congress tournament yesterday. Cibola's Josiah Ward took 5 place in Varsity Congress and Silas Lamar took first place in Novice Congress. Congrats!

  • Hi everyone!  I am Hannah Sanchez and I am the president of Spanish National Honors Society.  From Sept.15-Oct. 15th we celebrate Hispanic Heritage month.  We will be sharing an inspirational quote from influential hispanics here in the United States that have helped shape our culture and way of life.  We will be presenting these in English and then in Spanish.

    Catherine Machado Gray, the first Hispanic and Latina to represent the U.S. at the Winter Olympics and would pave the way for future skaters of color.  She said, “ Many Europeans…were even surprised to find out I was Mexican-American from the U.S. and not from another Latin country.”  “ You have to want it and love it because you have to give up a lot of things.  I have no regrets.”  She was inducted into the U.S. Figure Skating Hall of Fame in 2005. 

    Catherine Machado Gray, fue la primera hispana y latina para representar a los Estados Unidos en las Olympiadas de Invierno y abririo el camino para futuros patinadores de color.  Ella dijo, “Muchos Europeos…aún se sorprendieron al saber que era mexicana-americana de los Estados Unidos y no de otro país Latinoamericano.”  “Uno tiene que desearlo y quererlo completamente porque tiene que dejar atrás mucho.  No me arrepiento.”  La introdujeron al Salón de la Fama de las Olimpiadas de Patinaje Artístico de los Estados Unidos en el año dos mil cinco.

Upcoming Events

  • Seniors, today you will have a class meeting during advisory.  The topic will be graduation.  We'll talk dates, times, dress codes, and caps and gowns.  When third period ends, head straight to the PAC.
    • After the class meeting, we will have voter registration going on until after lunch.  You can register to vote if you are a citizen that turns 18 by November 8th, even if you're still currently 17.
  • Teachers, recycling bins will be delivered this week. Please put a post-it on your door if you need one. 

  • This past weekend the JROTC competed against more than 20 schools in Las Cruces and here are the results:

    • The Unarmed Regulation Drill Team won 1st Place

    • The Precision Marksmanship Team won 1st Place

    • The Exhibition Unarmed Drill Team won 3rd Place

    • The Female Color Guard won 2d Place

    • The Male Color Guard won 3rd Place

    • And that's not all...

      • Mari Rivera won 1st place in the Precision Marksmanship category 

      • Cameron  Kyria won 1st place in the New Sporter Shooter Category

      • Valiant Garvin took home 5th place overall in the Sporter Marksmanship Category

      • Sam Fuentes won 5th place overall in the Precision Marksmanship Category 

      • And finally, Desirae Alderete earned 4th Place overall in the Precision Marksmanship Category

  • Calling all Esports members remember to report to E Lecture hall today right after lunch for a Cibola Vs. Navy Event.  Check the google classroom for details or see Mrs. Knight in E9, Ms. Valencia in D 10 or Ms Wilks in E13.
  • Today in the JROTC class rooms (P-4) from 1030 to 1130, there will be a presentation by the US Naval Academy Admissions Officer. All Juniors and Seniors are invited to attend, you don't have to be in JROTC, just come by if you'd like to attend.

  • Congratulations to the JROTC Precision Marksmanship Team (Cadets Marialena Rivera, Desirae Alderete, Iliana Barger, and Team Captain Sam Fuentes) for their win against Manzano High School during the precision league match on Friday and their 3rd place finish on Saturday at La Cueva High School's Bi-Annual Biathlon.  Great Job Ghost Assassins! 

  • IDs will be made today at the beginning of lunch in the last office in the Dean's hallway.

Cibola Sports Update

  • Volleyball had a great run in the Metro Tournament making it to the semi-finals.  Way to go ladies!
  • The Lady Cougar Soccer team on their 1-0 win over Oregon Mountain on Saturday.
  • Congrats to the boys soccer team on their 2-1 win over Valencia on Saturday.
  • Football beat Farmington on Saturday 41-36 to stay undefeated this season.
